THE HOSPITALITY
The offered hospitality is based on the formula "Bed ‘n Breakfast", the typical and famous custom of Anglo-Saxon origin that allows the travellers to be accommodated in a familiar atmosphere and that will ease the deepening of the cultural acquaintance with the usages diffused in the city of Rome.
The best alternative to the hotel
IANUS is a " first class lodging house" from the classification of Regional Law number 18 of 1997, that is a tourist enterprise similar to a Hotel, the first class certifies the top quality in compliance with the current regulations.
The choice of the Ianus name

To choose the name for a tourist activity in Rome is not an easy task, uncountable are in fact the symbolisms and meanings already associated with names of numerous hotels, lodging houses and Bed & Breakfast.
However our requirement was to find a name with Latin roots and ancient spirituality, suitable to symbolize the philosophy of the warm reception, expressing a protecting role toward our guests.
Our location, at the doors of the ancient Rome, and the historical roots of our building, contributed to inspire the choice of the name IANUS, the latin name of the most ancient italic divinity of the ancient Rome, GIANO in Italian, the two-faces God.
IANUS in the ancient Rome was considered the main divinity.
The latin term IANUA is derived from his name, and the IANI were the fixed routes, overlooked by an arch, placed at the doors of the city of Rome and also on the thresholds of the houses of the ancients romans.
Crossing the Iani symbolized the function of purification and protection of the inhabitants of the city, or of the families in the houses.
The temple dedicated to Ianus had to stay open at any time during a war, with the troops that executed ritual crossings. On the other side, the temple had to be solemnly closed when peace is re/established and the ceremonies held for the closure of the doors of the temple tended to exalt the role of the God Ianus as caretaker of the peace.
Its two-faced face represents the function of presiding the beginnings, the thresholds and the passages, considered in a material, or temporal, sense or in a figured, or symbolic, sense as well. One example is the analysis of the passed year and the guarding vision of the new one, with one face turned to the past and the other one turned to the future. This is also the reason why IANUARIUS, today’s January, representing the door of the year, was the month dedicated to IANUS.
This is only a short account of some of the deep meanings attributed to the God Giano in the roman religion, and there are many more, of a certain importance, whose description would take pages and pages.
We conclude emphasizing a curious fact: in Rome before us nobody has used the appellation IANUS in a tourist activity!
We are honoured to identify ourselves in the philosophical simbolism of Giano which guarantee this protecting hospitality to our customers, in a place located at the historical doors of the ancient Rome, along the Via Cassia, one of the main consular roman roads.
